Computer Aided Contingency Analysis
The increased demand for distribution system reliability creates a concomitant need for contingency analysis. Determining the capability of a system to restore power along secondary feeds is key to providing customer satisfaction and appeasing regulatory agencies. This paper explores the characteristics of distribution outages and the importance of over-current devices for minimizing power loss, the distinction between distribution and transmission, and how to improve power-grid reliability for customers. Special attention is given to settings and options that can help isolate outage elements, manage dropped loads, and regulate point options.
